The clear, cold water of the White Mountains region is ideal for trout fishing, and Brook, Brown, and Rainbow trout are abundant. Notable rivers and streams include the Swift River along the Kancamagus Highway, the East and West Branches of the Pemigewasset, the Saco, Ellis, and Wildcat Rivers, and the Ammonoosuc River. Prefer lake fishing? Cast your line at Moore Reservoir on the Connecticut River, Big and Little Squam, Stinson, and Echo Lake; and Profile Lake (fly fishing only).

The ponds, brooks and rivers of the White Mountain National Forest are also available to fishermen with a network of highways and foot trails offering roadside and backcountry access.
